66kV oil immersed power transformer is a new demand for new energy grid connection

Publication date:2026-09-17

The 66kV oil immersed power transformer is in a connecting position in the power system, connecting upwards to the 110kV main grid and supplying downwards to the 35kV distribution network. In recent years, with the large-scale development of wind and photovoltaic bases, the application of 66kV transformers in the new energy boosting and gathering process has significantly increased.

The new version of the energy efficiency standards in 2024 will for the first time include 66kV new energy generation side transformers in the coverage area, adding energy efficiency level requirements for 66kV to 72.5kV/0.4kV to 1.14kV. This means that the selection of transformers for new energy stations will face stricter energy efficiency thresholds, forcing manufacturers to optimize electromagnetic design and material processes.

In terms of technological trends, 66kV oil immersed transformers are presented in three directions: first, the application of low loss silicon steel sheets and amorphous alloy materials to reduce no-load losses; Secondly, the fully sealed structure reduces maintenance requirements and adapts to the unmanned operation mode of new energy stations; The third is the pre-set intelligent monitoring interface, which provides a data foundation for status maintenance and remote operation and maintenance.

In the new energy scenario, 66kV transformers need to adapt to wide voltage fluctuations and frequent load changes. The output of wind farms fluctuates greatly due to the influence of wind speed, while photovoltaic power plants exhibit a periodic pattern of daytime generation and nighttime shutdown. Transformers need to have strong overload and temperature control capabilities to cope with these fluctuating loads.
